Timeline

Much has happened since EPA FOODS started the production of the first tray of Taste of Tokyo sushi. See the development since the start in 2002 below.

From 0 to 10 million pieces of sushi in less than 10 years

2002:

EPA FOODS is established by Einar Johansen, Peter P. Tetzlaff and Anders P. Christensen. The first tray of sushi is sold in Føtex, Copenhagen. The same year, Taste of Tokyo sushi is introduced to the Swedish market. It is estimated that about 20,000 Danes enjoy Taste of Tokyo sushi on New Year's Eve.

2003:

Sushi lovers can now buy Taste of Tokyo sushi at supermarkets throughout the country. It is estimated that 30,000 Danes enjoy Taste of Tokyo sushi on New Year's Eve.

2004:

EPA FOODS is awarded the DI initiative award for the county of Roskilde.

2005:

Fresh sushi from Taste of Tokyo is now delivered six times a week throughout Denmark. The Taste of Tokyo 10 pc. Sushi box wins first place in the test of healthy convenience meals in the magazine I Form. The reason is among other things that the sushi is rich in healthy fats and the ultra-quick preparation. In Copenhagen, school children are now offered fresh sushi as part of their school meals. The first sushi trays from Taste of Tokyo are delivered to the German market. On New Year's Eve almost 80,000 Danes have Taste of Tokyo sushi.

2006:

Fresh sushi for school children throughout the country! The school meal scheme becomes nationwide through a cooperation with the firm 123 Skolemad.

Just under 105,000 Danes have Taste of Tokyo sushi on their New Year's menu – an increase of 30% compared with the previous year.

2007:

EPA FOODS suffers from growing pains and expands the factory to increase both production premises and storage facilities. Stiftung Warentest (Germany's most reputable consumers' association) awards the Taste of Tokyo 8 pc. sushi box the quality assuring marks "gut" for sensory quality. Only two sushi products in the German retail business have received this mark.

In December, EPA FOODS is IFS certified at "higher level."

2008:

Maveglad is introduced on the Danish market – created in cooperation with cookbook and food writer Tina Scheftelowitz.

2010:

The consumers want more fish, and EPA FOODS launches FlyinFish, an easy and delicious way to serve fish.

Taste of Tokyo sushi is now distributed through Deutsche See in Germany, where  EPA FOODS is able to benefit fully from Deutsche See’s advanced logistics system.

Both initiatives have been taken as part of a closer strategic cooperation with Deutsche See, which was among other things selected because of their values which have much in common with EPA FOODS.
