And to drink?

Although Taste of Tokyo sushi is a simple meal, it contains numerous taste experiences. So you cannot drink just anything with the meal.

Water is always a safe bet, but if you want a bit more, you can try some of the traditional drinks enjoyed by the Japanese with their sushi:

Sake is Japanese rice wine. It is normally served heated, but can also be enjoyed chilled. There are two basic types of Sake: Honjozo with extra alcohol added, which is best served heated. Junmaj contains 15% alcohol by nature and should be served chilled.
Green tea is a Japanese classic. Always served without sugar and milk. With sushi you can have it hot or cold, and the tea is particularly good with nigiri.

If you feel like beer, or biru in Japanese, you should allow yourself the real deal. The sweet and bitter beer matches the sour and salty tastes often found in the marinated rice. Try for example Asahi, Kirin ichiban or Sapporo, which are available from supermarkets or specialty stores. If you want to make it even more festive, the combination of Guinness stout and champagne is completely unique, a cocktail called Black Velvet. Ratio 1:1.

Not many people have red wine with fish, but the combination is fine with sushi. A fresh and fruity red wine is perfect with the spicy maki rolls.

If you prefer white wine, Chardonnay is a safe bet. Riesling is also great, as the balance between sour and sweet goes well with sushi. Champagne and ginger will probably never become best friends, but the bubbles of a good champagne go well with sushi – if it is one of those days.
